The film is one long flashback of Admiral Sherman (Cary Grant), who used to be the first captain of an old WW2 sub about to be put into service.

Cary Grant stars as Lt. Cmdr. Matt T. Sherman, commander of the submarine USS Sea Tiger WW2 docked at its port in the Philippines.

December 1941. Before joining battle in the Pacific, Sea Tiger was heavily damaged by fighter planes attacking Japanese. Both were married and had children with sex workers female with which they flirted in the sub during these hectic days of WW2. Both are happy and the film leaves us there, when the weather is still good.

Cary Grant and Tony Curtis excel in their roles. They are superbly cast. Both are very credible and deliver their lines with authority. Lots of good one liners and innuendo. But ultimately it is a feel-good comedy that reflects the specific conditions of WW2. Half a century later, he probably lost all its brilliance and relevance, especially for the younger generation born in the 80s and 90s.
