Did you ever consider that there may be a better option to conventional fencing for keeping your pet contained and safe and it can literally save you thousands? We will discuss a couple of types of electronic fencing in this article that can safely contain both dogs and cats and the benefits to you.
You can avoid the expense of conventional fence with an electronic dog fencing or cat fencing system which will keep your dog or cat safe and secure in your yard. In some localities you may be restricted from installing a conventional wood, vinyl or chain link fence. No matter what your reasoning, electronic dog fencing offers an affordable cost saving alternative for pet safety and it’s virtually invisible. These systems can provide pet safety over an extremely large area making them very flexible.
You can choose from two types of electronic dog fence, one being an underground fence and the other a wireless fence which provides you with portability. Both work on a similar principle in that they both send out a signal to a receiver collar that the dog or cat wears. If your pet gets to close to the perimeter area, the receiver collar will administer an effective but harmless correction, keeping your dogs or cats safely contained on your property . It is recommended that you spend the necessary time training your dog or cat to its new boundaries and training flags included with most systems will aid in this process. The training process is aided with the flags as they create a visual for you and your pet as to where the boundary is located. Both the underground and wireless system will be discussed in this article.
The underground fence or wired system is usually the less expensive fence system of the two and utilizes a wire normally buried a couple of inches below grade around the property. The underground fence can also be installed above ground with the use of sod staples. You begin at the transmitter which is located in an area protected from the elements like a garage or shed and you run the wire around the property and end back at the transmitter. A power source will be needed to power the transmitter. These systems have the ability to contain your pets on an average size lot up to a sizeable farm of several acres dependent on the particular model . Imagine the cost of erecting a traditional fence for that area! Once set up, the dog wears the receiver collar and as it draws close to the wire marking the boundary, it receives a signal from the transmitter that corrects the dog and brings him back into the yard.
The wireless fence system is the second option. This is much easier to install in that there’s no digging for wire to be laid. Plug this system in, set the boundary range and you’re ready to start training. This system is quite flexible as you have the ability to change the range if you desire. It is slightly more expensive than the hard- wired system, but its portability means you could take it along with your dog on a camping vacation, or wherever you may be traveling. If you have a lot of land, you can also purchase additional transmitters and increase the range.
Basically, how this system works is it will cover a radial area of say 30 feet up to 3/4 of an acre depending on the particular unit you purchase. The signal that is transmitted to the collar grows weaker as the dog approaches the limit of the boundary until the receiver collar eventually activates and delivers a correction keeping the dog within the boundary area.
Whether you decide on an underground fence or wireless fence system, you can rest assured that you have a reasonably priced, effective pet containment system that outperforms traditional fencing for containing and protecting your pets .
