The New Encyclopedia of the Dog six chapters are filled with beautiful photographs illustrating dogs of all ages from every race imaginable. Although most of the book devoted to explanations of certain breeds, five short chapters provide information on evolution, domestication, anatomy and health, communication, and the roles dogs have played in recent human history. With historical photographs of tapestries, ceramics and film posters and intricate diagrams of dog anatomy and diagrams that describe proper care, this chapter provides a good basis for my school research papers or science-fair projects. The 310 pages under the “Domestic Dog Breed” chapter is further divided into nine categories of dogs that range from fascinating primitives to hard-working animals and guard dogs. Each race has several pictures, both as an adult and a puppy, and a standard set of information on size, weight, life expectancy, date and country of origin, and AKC registration. Some simple icons, explained in this chapter introductions, provide you with information in an instant – while learning about new varieties, you’ll know immediately if your dog requires extensive grooming and lots of exercise, or is suitable for small children and city dwelling.
