The kitty cat just loved all kinds of dogs. She thought Great Dane, because they are big, but she also liked the little dog chihuahua because they are small. “Tough dogs” that bulldogs are sympathetic, but then again soft poofy dogs like Bichon Frisé is large. There are those yippity yappity dogs and dogs that are pretty calm, relaxed and just hang around. She loved ‘em all.

Some dogs like the German Shepherd is rough and tumble type who likes to fight with their toys while others like to play with their calm. Gotta love’ em! Sheepdogs are hairy as they come and hair flying everywhere, whilst the Chinese crested dog has not been much over. There are all types of dogs that a cat could love, including the Saluki, the pug, the poodle, the Bull Terrier, the Dalmatian, the dachshund, the Shar Pei, and Jack Russell, but there are a type of dog kitty cat does not like. Can you guess what kind of can?

This is a beautifully simple, but totally engaging book on any kind of lovable, huggable dogs. There is a wide range of dogs who march through these pages , all with different personalities and see that someone is bound to love. The artwork highlights of each dog in a simple cream colored background and nice highlight his personality with each brush stroke. No spoilers here, but the little twist at the end will bring a smile to your face. If a dog or a dog lover, this is a book you simply must have on your shelves!

I took a look at this book and fell in love. The combination of large images and large format makes this perfect for group sharing. The rhymes move in a perfect rhythm for reading aloud and gives a nice little lesson in opposites. The image of the hairy dog is guaranteed to make someone smile. There are many picture books out there that take in dogs in all their forms and functions, but I would like to say that nobody does it better than this. A superb effort that will go in my permanent collection story time. An enormous recommend for toddlers and preschool children.

Emily Gravett, Dogs (Simon and Schuster, 2009)

If you are familiar with Emily Gravett already, you probably got a good idea of what they can expect from this, it’s funny, sweet, vaguely educational, and with a twist at the end but a lot milder than usual twist (Nobody gets eaten). Gravett portraits of dogs (there is a key race on the inside cover) is adorable. A good one for the child in the family. *** ½
